The Hill Where Lionesses Roar

Kosovo / France, 2021 - 83
An isolated small town in Kosovo. Three teenage girls, Qe, Li and Jeta, are inseparable best friends. Stuck in the local rhythm, they spend their summer afternoons throwing stones at glass bottles and dreaming of better times. They don’t want to be here, where men are either a threat or a liability, and where parents feel that they always know best. It’s impossible that their future has already been defined. Their greatest dream is to leave this place and never come back. Impatiently they wait to hear if they have been accepted to university in the city, which will provide their escape route. What if they have not? And, if life seems like a prison anyway, then maybe they should start committing crimes? A brilliant debut about friendship and the power of young women in Kosovo, where their right to choose their own vision of the future is not a given. A portrait of a generation combined with an original thriller.
