The Dog Pound
La perrera
dir. Manolo Nieto
Argentina / Uruguay / Spain / Canada, 2005 - 105
A tragicomedy about David, a failed student living in a seaside resort where just as many dogs live as men, and very few women. His path, if there is one, is not the one taken by his girlfriend. To say nothing of his father, who reproaches him with the insufferable pointlessness of his existence. During the hot summer days, as David struggles to finish building a house and resume his studies, his only companions are dogs and his only entertainment is sleep, TV, pot and porn.
This luminous film by Manuel Nieto deals with the coming-of-age of young Uruguayan cinema.
It features tunes by Flor Maleva, Laura Gutman and by the band Buenos Muchachos, one of the best kept secrets in Uruguayan underground rock.
