The Sun, the Sun blinded me
Słońce, to słońce mnie oślepiło
dir. Anka Sasnal, Wilhelm Sasnal
Poland / Switzerland, 2016 - 74
The main character Rafał Mularz is a stranger by choice. He does not act according to generally accepted rules. His alienation is a matter of his chosen way of life, it is an escape from fears, desires, dreams and ambitions. One day he meets a man of a different colour, more alien than himself – a Stranger by definition.
The film builds a portrait not only of the main character, but also of contemporary society, which usually points a finger at any otherness. What does it mean to encounter a Stranger, in both an individual and a social aspect, especially in times of increasing nationalism and xenophobia in countries like Poland?
A film inspired by the novel "The Stranger" by Albert Camus.
