Outrage
Outrage
dir. Kirby Dick
USA, 2009 - 90
A documentary about U.S. politicians who are gay but haven't publicly stated their sexual preferences, and even have anti-gay voting records. One of the featured men is Senator Larry Craig, famous for opposing gay rights, who admitted in 2007 to having disturbed the peace by lewd behaviour towards an undercover police officer in a public toilet.
Dick's documentary doesn't seek to unmask people simply on the basis that they're famous. His subjects here look haunted, hunted, crabbed, and wary. Watching, you don't just want to call them out for double standards. You want, for their sake, to see them unburdened.
